WELCOME TO CARRY!
FAb
The evidence that knowledge and application of First Aid (FA) will save lives and help minimize injuries when accidents occur is over whelming. FA box (FAb) in cars is an innovation in public health management to mitigate damage in terms of fatalities and injuries especially on the roads of Africa. Yet, because of lack of awareness, most drivers do not understand that First Aid is a quick, simple and cheap initiative that saves lives. The majority car owners do not have FAb in their cars; they have a preference for equipping their cars with i-pods, CDs, etc.
As a consequence, Carry! FAb is a platform to foster expert advice, disseminate best practices, advance application on FA for road users and a new approach to achieve enhanced community participation in rescue operations for road crash victims on African roads. Reducing deaths on the spot of road crashes is the primary aim behind the Campaign and it is a first real bid to give impetus to the endorsement by meeting of experts at African Road Safety Conference, Ghana, 2007 to institute mandatory FA training to all drivers and First Aid Box mandatory in all cars in Africa. The objective of Carry! FAb is to stimulate actions, advocacy and campaigns for exerting political pressure on National road safety agencies in Africa to honour the commitment they made at the meeting of experts by developing both free and commercial large-scale national FA programmes in partnership with lead country Road Safety Agencies Health ministries, Corporate organizations, NGOs, Road user unions, road interest groups and well-meaning individuals. This website offers a wide network of strategies and services from which information can be procured for the execution of National FA programmes and to make road users understand the importance of First Aid and begin to request for it before enforcement. Successful implementation of national FA programmes in Africa will demonstrate the political will of governments to enter into a long-lasting commitment to addressing global road safety crisis. Carry! FAb initiative calls on the leadership of the African Union, UNECA, WHO-Afro region and other development partners to collaborate with National dedicated bodies in charge of promoting road safety to ensure that this highly needed FA measure is implemented successfully in all African countries. This site is supported by the PATVORA Organisation in line with the call on Non-Government Organizations by the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Osita Chidoka to complement FRSC efforts by carrying out researches on causes of road accidents for the purpose of providing practicable and sustainable options for policy formulations and implementations in the transport sector. |
